Competing for Glory: Schools Unite in Thrilling Inter-House Event

A thrilling atmosphere enveloped the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday as 200 athletes gathered for the annual inter-house competition at John Wesley College. The event united participants from five schools, including Kalabu Secondary School, Jeremiah Raibevu College, Willam Cross College, and Ahmadiyya Muslim College, showcasing a vibrant spirit of competition and camaraderie.

Logavatu Tavo, the head of the physical education department at John Wesley College, emphasized the school’s goal of maximizing student participation ahead of the Suva zone one competition. “The atmosphere at the inter-house competition is really great; all the students really enjoyed the events,” Tavo remarked, highlighting the positive environment cultivated during the day.

Favorable weather conditions enhanced the day’s enjoyment, allowing students to engage fully in the various activities. “We are also blessed with the weather; it’s not hot, so the students are out enjoying themselves,” Tavo added.

With the Coca-Cola Games and zone competitions approaching, Tavo mentioned the preparations underway. The school aspires to earn a gold medal in either event as a significant achievement. “Winning a gold medal in either of the competitions will be a big accomplishment for the school,” he stated.

Acknowledgment was given to the supportive parents and teachers who contributed to the smooth operation of the event, reinforcing the spirit of community that plays an essential role in these competitions.

This inter-house competition is part of a broader trend observed across Fijian schools, where an increasing emphasis is being placed on athletics. Schools are not only nurturing competitive skills among students but also fostering teamwork and personal growth, creating a vibrant athletic culture.

As John Wesley College and other institutions prepare for upcoming competitions, there is an optimistic outlook for the future of Fijian sports, with a focus on developing talent and ensuring a positive experience for all student-athletes. The continued support from the community and educators will remain crucial in guiding students on their athletic journeys.
