Seventeen students from Naitasiri Secondary School who were involved in a recent accident on Monday will receive a compassionate pass, pending reports and recommendations from the Sub Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Naitasiri and the Head of School (HoS). This announcement was made by Education Minister Aseri Radrodro.
The accident, which occurred at the Navuniyasi Village Saumakia Junction in Naitasiri, resulted from the driver allegedly losing control of the vehicle and veering off the road. The injured students were promptly transported to Vunidawa Hospital for medical treatment.
Minister Radrodro noted that while the police investigation is ongoing, further details about the cause of the accident cannot yet be disclosed. He assured that the necessary procedures for the compassionate pass would follow soon.
Additionally, it has been advised that affected students are encouraged to file claims with the Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF). The Head of School will assist students and their parents or guardians with the claims process once the police and medical reports are available.
Minister Radrodro urged the community to prioritize safety to avert similar incidents in the future, emphasizing that this distressing situation reminds everyone of the importance of life and the resilience found within the community.
