Residents on Mate Rd in Korovuto, Nadi, are increasingly concerned about a rise in robberies in their area. Local resident Kam Anand stated that there has been a notable surge in criminal activities, particularly thefts.
“As a worried resident, I feel it is essential to highlight the urgent need for immediate action regarding these issues,” Mr. Anand commented. He expressed that the absence of a visible police presence and delayed responses to incidents have worsened the situation, creating a climate of fear among residents.
Mr. Anand called on the Fiji Police Force to enhance patrols in Korovuto and improve community engagement efforts to ensure the safety and security of residents. “It is vital for the police to collaborate with the community to restore a sense of safety and trust,” he added.
This ongoing issue poses a significant concern for the safety of the community and those living on Mate Rd in Korovuto.
In response, Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew mentioned that an active Crime Prevention Committee (CPC) has been established for Mate Rd. He noted, “The president and members work closely with police, and so far, there have been no significant issues raised.” Mr. Fong Chew encouraged the individual who made the complaint to connect with their CPC so that these concerns can be properly addressed.
