Brian Pulefolau, known for his dedicated service to the Pasifika community in South Auckland, has received multiple accolades for his voluntary contributions. Recently, the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) recognized his dedication as the Supervisor of Security Guard Forces at Papakura Military Camp.

Brigadier Rob Krushka presented Mr. Pulefolau with a Commendation for Exceptional Leadership, highlighting his embodiment of the values sought by the Defence Force. Brigadier Krushka praised Mr. Pulefolau as a model of professionalism, reflecting the highest standards of the NZDF and serving as an exceptional ambassador for the Security Guard Force.

Originally from Niue, Mr. Pulefolau joined the NZDF in 2013 and has held various roles within Defence Security, ultimately becoming the Supervisor of Security Guard Forces at the south Auckland camp in 2018. He and his team are tasked with ensuring security at the camp, managing guest reservations, coordinating emergency procedures, and training staff.

Mr. Pulefolau has also initiated several healthy lifestyle programs focusing on financial wellness, physical fitness, and nutrition, positively impacting the health and well-being of his staff and their families, with some even purchasing their first homes.

“I genuinely care about my team and aspire to make an impact beyond my daily responsibilities,” he stated. He also teaches his team essential life skills, such as fishing, using repurposed equipment from departing soldiers, and they have successfully caught various local fish.

Beyond his responsibilities at the camp, Mr. Pulefolau actively engages with the Pasifika community in Auckland, New Zealand, and internationally. Raised in Manurewa, he volunteers extensively, acknowledged by Brigadier Krushka for his work in the community, church, and sports teams, while being a devoted father.

Mr. Pulefolau coordinates initiatives to ship recycled goods to the Pacific, including shipping civilian clothes to Fiji and construction materials to Tonga for rebuilding efforts post-cyclones. Alongside his wife Betty, he co-founded the Pasifika Autism Assist Group, which advocates for neurodiversity in the Pasifika community by providing support for families with autistic members. His efforts earned him the Volunteer of the Year Award from Autism New Zealand in 2016.
