Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has called on the residents of Naroi Village on Moala Island in Lau to unite as a community to enhance the education of children. During a recent visit to the village, Mr. Radrodro highlighted the presence of around 13,000 teachers across primary, secondary, and early childhood education institutions in Fiji, stressing the vital need to focus on their development due to concerns over increasing dropout rates among students.
He urged both students and educators to take full advantage of the resources and initiatives provided by the government. Mr. Radrodro noted that the Ministry of Education is the largest government ministry, receiving a significant portion of the budget as announced by Finance Minister Biman Prasad.
“It is essential for teachers to perform their roles effectively so that our children receive a quality education,” he stated. The Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration not only among teachers but also involving village residents, parents, chiefs, police, and church members to collectively support the educational needs of children and to elevate the standards of education in Fiji.
With rising school dropout rates being a concern, Mr. Radrodro called on everyone to contribute to improving the educational welfare of all children. He mentioned government initiatives such as the TSLS free loan schemes, and plans to expand vocational educational training institutions to provide more opportunities for students.
“I urge all of you here in Moala Island, as well as those in other areas we have visited or will visit, to prioritize our children’s education,” he concluded.
