Commonwealth leaders gathered for the event “An Ocean of Opportunity: Commonwealth Progress on Ocean Action” during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Apia, Samoa. The meeting focused on advancing the Commonwealth Ocean Declaration to promote sustainable ocean financing.
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sitiveni Rabuka praised the notable advancements made in ocean action over the past six years since the Commonwealth leaders embraced the Blue Charter. He emphasized that as a Small Island Developing State and a Commonwealth Small State, the Declaration is significant, relevant, and urgent for their interests. Rabuka pointed out that the ocean is central to their geography and deeply connected to their identity.
