Commonwealth Leaders Unite for Ocean Action in Samoa

Commonwealth leaders gathered at the “An Ocean of Opportunity: Commonwealth Progress on Ocean Action” event during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Apia, Samoa, yesterday. The event aimed to advance the implementation of the Commonwealth Ocean Declaration to enhance sustainable ocean financing.

Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sitiveni Rabuka praised the significant strides made in ocean action over the past six years since the Commonwealth leaders endorsed the Blue Charter. He emphasized that, as a Small Island Developing State and a Commonwealth Small State, the Declaration holds substantial importance and urgency for Fiji. Rabuka highlighted that the ocean is central to their geography and deeply intertwined with their national identity.
