Fiji will participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) set to take place in Apia, Samoa, from Monday, October 21, to Saturday, October 26. More than 3,000 delegates and leaders from 56 Commonwealth countries are expected to attend.
As the first small island developing state from the Blue Pacific, Samoa will host various events focused on promoting the health and wellbeing of girls and women across the Commonwealth, with King Charles and Queen Camilla in attendance.
During the meeting, heads of government will discuss an important Ocean Declaration aimed at accelerating efforts for a healthy, sustainable, and resilient ocean. Additionally, an election will be held to find a successor to the current Commonwealth secretary-general, Patricia Scotland, whose term concludes on March 31, 2025.
The agenda also focuses on reinforcing resilient democratic institutions that support human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, addressing climate change, and empowering individuals—particularly women and youth—for a peaceful and productive life.
The meeting will wrap up on Saturday, October 26, with a final communiqué summarizing the outcomes of the discussions among heads of government.
