Commonwealth Leaders Gather for Key Discussions in Samoa

The 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Apia, Samoa, promises to be a significant platform for impactful discussions, according to Samoan Prime Minister Fiame Mata’afa. She emphasized that the week-long event will focus particularly on issues concerning Commonwealth youth.

Mata’afa noted, “They are central to our discussions on prosperity, fairness and sustainable development, and through the people and women’s forums, we have the opportunity as leaders to hear these critical voices.”

The meeting commenced yesterday with a panel featuring Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua. She remarked, “Women leaders in conflict areas talking with one another is encouraging because it means that regardless of the differences within a nation and another, it’s positive that women can communicate with other women from nations that may be in conflict.”

CHOGM gathers delegations from 56 nations across Africa, the Caribbean and Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. The meeting aims to strengthen multilateral cooperation, seek out new opportunities, and address shared challenges for the benefit of future generations.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is also expected to participate in the meeting.
