Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) and The Fertile Factory & Company Limited have initiated talks about a potentially transformative partnership focused on promoting sustainability in recycling and agriculture. The collaboration aims to address plastic waste management issues while enhancing organic farming methods.

Recently, The Fertile Factory introduced BulaBioBrew Soil, a natural, organic liquid fertilizer designed to improve soil biology and plant health. Packaged in PET bottles, BulaBioBrew Soil offers a chemical-free option that enhances soil diversity and balance.

PRF is seeking ways to recycle these PET bottles once the fertilizer is used. The discussions include the possibility of implementing a deposit system to incentivize the collection, reuse, and recycling of the bottles, which would help prevent environmental pollution and reduce waste in landfills.

Amitesh Deo, the Founder of PRF, expressed enthusiasm about the potential collaboration with The Fertile Factory, noting it could be a pioneering effort for Fiji. He stated, “If this collaboration progresses, it will support our efforts to reduce plastic waste by ensuring that PET bottles used for packaging BulaBioBrew Soil are captured through our recycling programs. This initiative will contribute to a cleaner environment while supporting sustainable agricultural practices.”

Another aspect under consideration is the use of BulaBioBrew Soil on PRF’s sustainability initiative, Malhana Cloud Kitchen Restaurant, which follows a farm-to-table model. The aim is to assess whether this pilot can illustrate the benefits of organic fertilizers alongside the significance of recycling in agriculture.

Sanjeev Chand, Chief Executive of The Fertile Factory, expressed optimism regarding the discussions. He said, “We are pleased to begin exploring collaboration with Pacific Recycling Foundation. BulaBioBrew Soil has the potential to revolutionize the way farmers care for their soil, and by working with PRF, we hope to ensure that the PET bottles we use for packaging do not harm the environment. While these are early discussions, we see a lot of promise in developing a system that encourages recycling and supports sustainable farming practices.”

Although these discussions are still in the early stages, the partnership between PRF and The Fertile Factory could lead to an innovative approach that combines organic farming with effective plastic waste management.
