The Fiji Police Force has addressed concerns regarding unfounded rumors about individuals injecting drugs into coconuts, commonly known as ‘bu’. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has reassured the public that these allegations are false.

On Thursday, November 21, after midday, members of the Samabula operations team were on a mobile patrol in the Namadi area when a citizen alerted them to two men acting suspiciously. Upon investigating, the officers found the two individuals walking along a footpath but, after a thorough search, they found no illegal substances.

ACP Driu clarified that these individuals are known for selling coconuts along Princess Road, which may have led to speculations regarding their behavior. However, the reports circulating about drug activity are not supported by any factual evidence.

The Fiji Police Force encourages the public to report any suspicious activities through reliable channels, assuring confidentiality for shared information and emphasizing the importance of verifying claims with authorities.

This statement from the Fiji Police offers a reminder of the importance of addressing misinformation promptly and maintaining public trust in law enforcement. The proactive approach taken by the police highlights their commitment to community safety and transparency, fostering a sense of security among citizens.
