Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, leader of the People’s Alliance, has affirmed that he maintains significant support from coalition partners, the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) and the National Federation Party (NFP), following the recent swearing-in of three new Ministers and three Assistant Ministers. Rabuka stated that he secured prior approval from both parties before the swearing-in, demonstrating a collaborative approach within the coalition.
Viliame Takayawa, General Secretary of SODELPA, echoed Rabuka’s confidence, asserting that the coalition remains solid and united, although he chose not to elaborate further. The NFP has similarly reinforced its commitment to the coalition government, underscoring the importance of teamwork among the parties as they address Fiji’s pressing issues.
This mutual support comes as political leaders have expressed a unified front to tackle significant challenges facing the nation. Notably, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica and other cabinet members have publicly reiterated their backing for Rabuka and the coalition’s objectives, highlighting the importance of strong relationships among coalition partners.
Looking ahead, Prime Minister Rabuka is set to visit New Zealand for discussions with the Prime Minister there and to partake in Fiji Day celebrations. He will also attend the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa, illustrating the coalition’s commitment to nurturing a prosperous future for all Fijians, particularly the youth.
In summary, the coalition appears resilient, with leaders expressing optimism about their unity and collaborative efforts in governance. This proactive approach bodes well for Fiji as the government continues to navigate national challenges with a hopeful outlook for the future.
