Clothes for Good generously donated $5,000 to the Nasole Housing Assistance Relief Trust (HART) Community on Wednesday, demonstrating their commitment to philanthropy. This American-based organization is the pioneering non-profit store for preloved clothing in Fiji, with locations in Nabua and Lami, just outside Suva.
The profits from these stores are reinvested into the local Fijian community, supporting various charities and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents. Founder Hayden Ostrom emphasized that their mission revolves around charity, stating, “Our business is centred around charity, helping the communities like Nasole HART grow and raise their standard of living.”
He noted that their outreach to struggling communities aims to create impactful change from the ground up. Shopping at their stores not only provides customers with quality clothing and shoes but also contributes to the well-being of those in need. “Every time someone shops at one of our stores in Nabua or Lami, they are not only getting lovely clothes or shoes; they are helping us make a difference to those in need in Fiji,” he explained.
The recent donation will specifically be allocated to enhancing community safety by repairing fences due to significant security concerns related to break-ins. Ostrom stressed the importance of safety, stating, “Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home, especially when such a community is home to those who have suffered a form of violence.”
In addition, funds will be directed towards upgrading the community hall, which has been affected by leaks and is crucial for the children’s educational activities. “The hall is an important part of the community and is used by the children for their studies,” he noted, highlighting the multifaceted impact of their contribution.
This initiative not only reflects the company’s dedication to social responsibility but also illustrates a positive model of how business can effectively support and uplift local communities. The efforts of Clothes for Good serve as a reminder of the significant impact each community can make when businesses choose to give back.
Overall, this collaboration between a charitable organization and the local community fosters hope and promotes resilience among those served. With sustained efforts like this, there is promise for improved living conditions and a strengthened sense of security for the residents of Nasole.
