Clothes for Good has made a generous donation of $5,000 to the Nasole Housing Assistance Relief Trust (HART) Community, demonstrating their commitment to charity and community support. This American-based organization is notable for being the first non-profit preloved clothing store in Fiji, with locations in Nabua and Lami, just outside the capital city of Suva.
The profits generated from their two stores are entirely reinvested into the Fijian community, assisting various local charities and initiatives. The founder of Clothes for Good, Hayden Ostrom, emphasized that their mission revolves around enhancing the living standards in struggling communities like Nasole HART.
Ostrom stated, “Every time someone shops at one of our stores in Nabua or Lami, they are not only getting lovely clothes or shoes; they are helping us make a difference to those in need in Fiji.” He pointed out that their store is unique in Fiji, where all profits are dedicated to aiding those in distress.
The recent donation is earmarked for improving safety and security in the community by repairing fences, which have been compromised due to recent break-ins. Ostrom highlighted the importance of safety, particularly for those in the community who have faced violence, noting, “Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home.”
Additionally, part of the funds will be allocated to refurbishing a community hall that has suffered from leaks and damage. This facility is vital for local children, serving as a space for their studies and community gatherings.
This initiative not only illustrates the power of community engagement by businesses but also highlights a model where shopping can directly enhance the well-being of vulnerable populations, creating a positive cycle of support and upliftment.
In summary, the efforts of Clothes for Good reflect a commendable approach to business that intertwines social responsibility with charity, fostering a spirit of community development in Fiji.
