The 2024 Commonwealth Climate Breakfast focused on achieving consensus on climate finance targets ahead of COP 29. Key topics discussed included access to climate finance, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and strategies for loss and mitigation.
Fiji’s Fisheries and Forestry Minister, Alitia Bainivalu, emphasized two crucial targets within Fiji’s NDCs for the Ministry of Forestry. She stated, “Target 10 aims to conserve our natural environment and biodiversity, ensuring the sustainable long-term provision of ecosystem services, including carbon sequestration potential.” Additionally, she mentioned, “Target 11 is to plant 30 million trees over 15 years, a priority for the Ministry that began in 2012.”
