Australian weightlifter Eileen Cikamatana recently stated that the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship (CWC) will help her evaluate her performance following the recent Paris Olympics. She mentioned that she has begun training in the last few weeks to prepare for the upcoming tournament.
Cikamatana expressed her enthusiasm for competing with other athletes from the Commonwealth region and emphasized her desire to enjoy the experience alongside friends and family who have traveled from various islands to support her.
Her coach, Paul Coffa, sets specific targets for Cikamatana for each competition she enters. She highlighted the importance of witnessing fellow athletes pursue their dreams, finding their stories of ambition as a source of inspiration.
The athlete noted the positive emergence of a new generation of lifters at the tournament and stressed her commitment to encouraging youth and junior lifters to remain dedicated to their goals. She advised them not to give up, reminding them that success is the result of hard work, commitment, and sacrifices.
Cikamatana expressed her pride in representing Australia in her home country, mentioning that it has been eight years since her last competition there in 2016. She will compete on Friday at 4:30 PM in the 87kg and 81kg plus categories.
She urged the people of Fiji to come out in large numbers to support the weightlifters from the Commonwealth region. The tournament commenced at the Vodafone Arena yesterday and will run until Saturday.
