A 66-year-old grandmother named Lita Finau from Wailevu experienced an emotional moment when she received a delivery of groceries from representatives of the JP Bayly Trust Labasa this past Tuesday. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Ms. Finau burst into tears, expressing her heartfelt appreciation for the gift that arrived just in time for Christmas.
In the days leading up to the holiday, Ms. Finau had been fervently praying for provisions to prepare meals for herself and her grandson, Elia Nainoka. Reflecting on her challenges, she mentioned seeing a fruitcake in Labasa Town that reminded her of her childhood but was priced at $20, a sum she couldn’t afford. “Food is so expensive nowadays, and I could only ask Jesus to bless us with enough groceries for breakfast and dinner,” she said.
For Ms. Finau, Christmas holds special significance as she believes it’s a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus by sharing meals with family. She felt this particular Christmas was a blessing from Jesus, allowing her to create joyful memories with her grandson.
Elia, a Year Three student at Sangam Primary School, shared in his grandmother’s emotions, acknowledging the hardships they’ve faced since the passing of her husband. “I thank Jesus for blessing me with a grandmother who tries her best to look after me,” he expressed.
This touching story serves as a reminder of the power of community and faith, showcasing how small acts of kindness can make a significant impact on the lives of those in need. The support Ms. Finau received not only helped provide for her family’s Christmas but also reinforced the bonds of love and gratitude that define the holiday season.
In difficult times, such stories spark hope and highlight the resilience of individuals who continue to care for one another, showing that even in hardship, joy can be found.
