Choosing Health Over Chaos: The Inspiring Journey of Susen Prasad

As modern life evolves, it can have significant impacts on both physical and mental health. However, adopting healthy habits can lead to a longer, happier life and reduce the risk of chronic illnesses.

Susen Prasad, 71, remains a strong proponent of maintaining health and fitness and avoiding substance abuse, even in his later years. He believes that walking is a simple and effective way to keep the heart active and invigorate the body.

“For me, it is an everyday routine to walk in the morning,” he said. “Morning walks are special because you get to embrace all the greenery, enjoy fresh air, and maintain a fresh perspective throughout the day.”

Prasad is particularly concerned about the negative effects of hard drugs on Fiji’s youth. He encourages young people to steer clear of destructive habits and be mindful of the dangers of peer pressure.

“Young people should think about their future,” he said. “We often hear about people being caught up in drugs, an issue that severely affects our country. It has spread to schools and is harming our students.”

Prasad urges young individuals to take care of themselves and their families and to avoid engaging in the illicit drug trade.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Prasad shared that he grew up in Golf Link Road, Lautoka, and enjoyed wonderful times with his family. “I had six brothers, two of whom have passed away, so only four of us remain. I studied up until Class 4 and did menial jobs from then on.”

Despite facing challenges, his childhood was filled with fun activities such as chasing livestock, playing with neighborhood friends, and doing household chores.

“I was around 17 or 18 years old when I joined the workforce, and over the years I did various jobs. I’ve worked as a plumber, carpenter, gardener, and laborer.”

After his father’s death, Prasad took up a position at the Fiji Sugar Corporation, where he worked for many years.

“I got married in 1984, and I have three wonderful children. With whatever time I have left in this world, I want to enjoy and live a happy life.”

Prasad enjoys fishing trips with his friends and tending to his vegetable garden in his free time. He currently resides with his family along the Viseisei bypass road, a few kilometers outside Lautoka City.
