Chinese Team Arrives in Rewa: What’s in Store for Development?

Rewa will soon welcome a Chinese scoping team tasked with evaluating the province’s potential for development.

Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa, who recently visited China, has announced that this technical scoping team will arrive in Rewa in September. The team will assess local resources and determine how best to utilize them to improve the well-being of Rewa’s residents.

Ro Teimumu highlighted that the team’s main objective is not to offer direct recommendations for agricultural development, but rather to explore and identify Rewa’s potential opportunities and capabilities.

“Initially, we do not need a technical team to tell Rewa what can be grown for us,” she said. “We need to see what is possible. The China team will be visiting different areas in Rewa starting in September. This will be followed by meetings of the tikina council and the provincial council.”

These meetings aim to inform the Rewa community about poverty alleviation initiatives inspired by the Chinese model and will involve discussions with the Great Council of Chiefs. Ro Teimumu emphasized that the focus would be on technical assistance rather than financial support.

“This will be a pilot project. We have to start small and are currently identifying the villages that need the most help. We plan to start with something visible and progress from there.”
