Chinese investors need more convincing to consider investing in Vatukoula Gold Mines. A delegation from China recently met with the Government after investigating the investment prospects at the Vatukoula site. Ian He, a representative from Vatukoula Gold, stated that the delegation included members who had previously invested in a mining operation in Australia.
“They are in Fiji to explore the investment climate at the invitation of Vatukoula,” He noted. “Significant efforts will be required to persuade them to invest here.”
This delegation’s visit formed part of their tour of Australia. The issue drew attention following questions raised by online influencer Alex Forwood, who inquired with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo about the progress of a mining project at Mt Kasi.
Although Vatukoula Gold received government approval for mineral exploration at Mt Kasi, the project has not moved forward due to opposition from landowners in Macuata.
