More convincing efforts are essential to attract Chinese investors to Vatukoula Gold Mines, according to representatives from the mines. A Chinese delegation recently met with the government following an investment review of the Vatukoula site.
Ian He, a spokesman for Vatukoula Gold, noted that the delegation included individuals involved in a mining operation in Australia. He mentioned that their visit to Fiji was arranged to explore the investment climate at Vatukoula’s invitation, emphasizing the significant effort required to persuade them to invest.
The delegation’s visit formed part of their tour in Australia. The issue gained attention after online influencer Alex Forwood posed critical questions to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo regarding the status of a mining project at Mt. Kasi. Although the government has permitted Vatukoula Gold to conduct mineral exploration at Mt. Kasi, the company has not yet carried out the exploration due to opposition from local landowners in Macuata.
