Significant effort is required to lure Chinese investors to Vatukoula Gold Mines. This statement comes from the mine’s representatives after a Chinese delegation met with the Government as part of their investment assessment of the Vatukoula site.

Vatukoula Gold spokesperson Ian He mentioned that the delegation included individuals who have invested in a mining venture in Australia. “Their visit to Fiji is aimed at examining the investment climate at our invitation,” he stated. He emphasized that substantial efforts will be necessary to persuade them to invest in Vatukoula.

The delegation’s visit was part of their tour in Australia. The issue gained attention following inquiries from online influencer Alex Forwood, who raised direct questions to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo regarding the current status of a mining project at Mt Kasi.

The Government had granted Vatukoula Gold permission to conduct mineral exploration at Mt Kasi; however, the exploration has yet to commence due to opposition from landowners in the Macuata region.
