Chinese investors require more convincing to consider investing in Vatukoula Gold Mines, according to representatives from the mine following a recent visit by a Chinese delegation. This group met with government officials as part of its investigation into the investment prospects at the Vatukoula site.

Ian He, a spokesperson for Vatukoula Gold, noted that the delegation included investors who have previously engaged in mining projects in Australia. “Their visit to Fiji was prompted by an invitation from Vatukoula to explore the investment climate,” he explained, emphasizing the significant effort needed to persuade them to invest in the mining operation.

This delegation’s tour was part of a broader trip that included stops in Australia. The discussions were highlighted after online influencer Alex Forwood raised questions to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo regarding the status of a mining project at Mt Kasi.

While the government granted Vatukoula Gold permission to conduct mineral exploration at Mt Kasi, activities have yet to commence due to resistance from Macuata landowners.
