China is at the forefront of enhancing global interest in showcasing services and trade. For the last 11 years, the country has organized the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), inviting nations worldwide to participate. The 12th edition took place from September 12 to 16 at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park in Beijing.
Since its inception in 2012, CIFTIS has emerged as one of the largest service fairs globally, and this year’s event upheld that reputation. A total of 85 countries participated, with numerous embassies represented. Although Fiji was not present, the participation would have provided a valuable opportunity for cultural exchange and trade expansion.
Additionally, 90 journalists from 83 countries attended the latter part of the China International Press Communication Centre program, which included participation in CIFTIS 2024. Their involvement helped share stories and experiences from the fair, amplifying its reach across the globe.
The atmosphere at the event was vibrant, with diverse displays showcasing new technologies and cultural artifacts. The booths featured an array of products, from shoes and clothing to design bags and souvenirs, attracting a large crowd. Many attendees, including myself, left with special mementos of the experience.
Highlighting advancements in technology, one exhibit featured an interactive robot resembling a friendly dog. It responded playfully to gestures, exemplifying the innovative spirit present in China. The fair was energetic, offering insights into digital services and sustainable tourism, and demonstrated how countries can collaborate in the service industry.
CIFTIS 2024 was truly inspiring for me and my friends. The exposure to numerous ideas and the unique environment made our visit memorable. It underscored the importance of international cooperation in the service sector, showcasing endless opportunities for learning and growth.
Overall, CIFTIS 2024 was an exceptional experience, igniting excitement for the future of global trade in services and illustrating the power of collaboration among nations.
