A shipment of emergency relief supplies from the Chinese government reached Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, on Thursday. This 35-ton aid package contains tents, folding beds, solar lights, food, water purification equipment, and medical supplies.

The aid is a direct response to the catastrophic 7.3-magnitude earthquake that hit Port Vila on December 17, which resulted in at least 14 fatalities, over 200 injuries, and considerable damage to the city’s infrastructure.

During the handover ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu, Li Minggang, expressed empathy for the extensive damage caused by the earthquake and reaffirmed China’s commitment to support Vanuatu in its recovery efforts.

Caretaker Prime Minister Charlot Salwai was also present at the ceremony and expressed gratitude for the timely assistance from China. He highlighted the importance of international support in Vanuatu’s recovery process.

This emergency aid not only provides immediate relief to those affected but also underscores the strength of international cooperation in times of crisis, providing hope for the communities working tirelessly to rebuild.
