China maintains its leading role in fostering global engagement in services and trade. For over a decade, the country has hosted the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), attracting participants from numerous countries worldwide.
The 12th edition of CIFTIS took place from September 12 to 16 at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park in Beijing. Since its inception in 2012, the fair has grown to become one of the largest service fairs globally, continuing that trend this year.
Eighty-five nations showcased their contributions at this year’s event, with a notable presence of various embassies. However, it was disappointing to note the absence of Fiji, as participation would have offered an excellent platform for promoting its unique culture and opportunities for trade.
The event also welcomed ninety journalists from eighty-three countries, including representatives from the Pacific Islands, who participated in the China International Press Communication Centre program. Their involvement was pivotal, enabling them to share insights and stories from CIFTIS with a global audience.
As attendees explored the diverse booths, the vibrant atmosphere and intriguing displays were commendable. A wide array of products was on offer, including footwear, clothing, innovative bags, toys, and souvenirs. The venue was bustling, making navigation a challenge, but many attendees took the opportunity to purchase items as mementos of their visit.
Among the highlights was a booth featuring an impressive robot resembling a friendly dog, which captivated visitors with its responsive movements. The fair showcased China’s advancements in technology, showcasing innovations in digital services and sustainable tourism. This atmosphere of collaboration among nations underscored the limitless potential within the service industry.
