China continues to lead in promoting global interest in services and trade through various initiatives. For 11 consecutive years, the country has hosted the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), which invites nations from across the globe to participate.
The 12th edition of CIFTIS took place from September 12 to 16 at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park in Beijing. Since its inception in 2012, CIFTIS has grown to become one of the world’s largest fairs dedicated to services, and this year was no exception. A total of 85 countries showcased their offerings at the event, although the absence of Fiji was noted, highlighting its missed opportunity to share its culture and explore new trade possibilities.
Ninety journalists from 83 countries attended the fair, including three representatives from the Pacific Islands, as part of the China International Press Communication Centre program. Their participation allowed them to cover CIFTIS 2024, sharing their insights and experiences with global audiences.
Attendees enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere filled with innovative displays, including technological advancements and cultural exhibits. The event featured a wide array of products, from clothing to toys, attracting large crowds eager to explore. Some visitors even took home souvenirs to commemorate their experience.
Among the standout exhibits was a robot designed to resemble a friendly dog, demonstrating the advancements in technology. Its interactive features, such as responding to hand movements, captivated many. This year’s fair emphasized the importance of digital services and eco-friendly tourism, showcasing how countries can creatively utilize technology within the service industry.
