China continues to lead global efforts in promoting services and trade. For over a decade, China has hosted the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), inviting countries from around the globe to participate.
The 12th edition of CIFTIS took place from September 12 to 16 at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park in Beijing. Since its inception in 2012, CIFTIS has evolved into one of the largest service fairs in the world, and this year upheld that reputation.
Eighty-five countries took part in this year’s event, with a notable presence from various embassies. Unfortunately, Fiji was not represented. It would have been a great opportunity for Fiji to participate in such a significant event to explore trade opportunities and share its vibrant culture.
Ninety journalists from eighty-three countries, including representatives from the Pacific Islands, attended the second half of the China International Press Communication Centre program. They also participated in CIFTIS 2024, providing them with the chance to witness and report on the event, which was vital for sharing their insights and experiences from the fair globally.
As I explored the various booths, I was captivated by the lively atmosphere and the diverse displays. The exhibition featured new technologies and cultural exhibits, showcasing a range of products including shoes, clothing, bags, toys, and souvenirs. The venue was bustling with visitors, making it somewhat challenging to navigate, but I couldn’t resist purchasing a few items as mementos of the visit.
A standout exhibit included an impressive robot designed to resemble a friendly dog, which reacted to my movements in a captivating way. For instance, when I raised my hand, the robot jumped, and tapping its head made it lower itself as if it were a real dog. This highlight demonstrated the advanced technological developments in China. The fair was vibrant with energy, offering insights into digital services and eco-friendly tourism. Each innovation I encountered spurred my curiosity about how different nations leverage technology and creativity, emphasizing collaboration and the endless possibilities in the service sector.
CIFTIS 2024 was inspiring for me and my friends. The wealth of new ideas presented made us grateful to be part of such a dynamic event. Our shared excitement over the displays and the unique environment made our experience unforgettable. It highlighted the importance of international cooperation in the service industry, emphasizing the continuous potential for learning and growth.
