A shipment of emergency relief supplies from the Chinese government has arrived in Vanuatu’s capital, Port Vila. The 35-ton package consists of essential items including tents, folding beds, solar lights, food, water purification equipment, and medical supplies.

This assistance comes in the wake of a powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Port Vila on December 17, resulting in at least 14 fatalities, over 200 injuries, and significant damage to the city’s infrastructure.

During the handover ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu, Li Minggang, expressed China’s commitment to supporting Vanuatu’s recovery. “We deeply understand the significant damage caused by the recent earthquake,” he stated, reaffirming China’s solidarity with the island nation.

Vanuatu’s caretaker Prime Minister, Charlot Salwai, was also present at the event and expressed his gratitude for the prompt assistance from China. He highlighted the critical role of international support in Vanuatu’s recovery efforts.

This gesture of aid showcases the importance of global collaboration in times of crisis, providing hope for a swift recovery in the affected areas. As relief efforts continue, the partnership between nations can foster resilience and support for communities in need.
