China Eyes Fijian Products: A New Trade Horizon?

China is looking to increase its imports of products from Fiji, according to Chinese Ambassador Zhou Jian, who emphasized the significance of capitalizing on market opportunities during a speech in Suva last Friday.

Mr. Zhou pointed out that as China strives to create a unified national market with a population of 1.4 billion, it aims to further encourage domestic demand. He believes this will provide significant opportunities for other economies, including Fiji. The ambassador expressed interest in importing a variety of Fijian products, such as mineral water, skincare items, and noni fruits.

Additionally, Mr. Zhou expressed optimism about the growth of economic and trade relations between China and Fiji. He also encouraged Fiji to engage with China’s extensive outbound tourism market. He suggested that establishing a direct flight between the two nations would be advantageous, as it would help attract more Chinese tourists to Fiji. Mr. Zhou affirmed that China is prepared to collaborate with Fiji to take advantage of opportunities arising from the latest technological revolution and industrial transformation.
