The meeting, led by Acting Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka, resulted in several important cabinet decisions. Among these was the approval of two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the People’s Republic of China.
The first MOU focuses on Trade Facilitation and Cooperation. It establishes a Working Group responsible for enhancing trade growth, fostering effective communication, encouraging business engagement, supporting industry associations, and addressing trade challenges. This group will work towards improving bilateral trade relations and supporting the Belt and Road Initiative.
The second MOU pertains to deepening cooperation in the Blue Economy. It aims to strengthen practical cooperation, promote new economic opportunities within this sector, and facilitate high-quality bilateral investments. The framework is designed to foster a mutually beneficial partnership, support sustainable development, and expedite the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Furthermore, it encourages the creation of maritime economic cooperation parks and exploration of investment opportunities to develop effective investment platforms.
