A beloved figure at the Nausori Club, Rajbahadur Singh, affectionately known as Ram Singh, recently retired from his bartending career after an incredible 50 years. The 70-year-old, who hails from Buiduna near Nausori, served his last drink at the end of July, marking a significant milestone in his life.

Ram Singh’s journey began on July 30, 1974, when he joined the Nausori Club as a cleaner. After six months, he transitioned to bartending, where he thrived in a welcoming atmosphere filled with friendly patrons. Over the decades, he embraced the role, often working from 9 AM until late into the night and even helping with food service.

Throughout his lengthy career, Ram developed strong connections with local officials, business leaders, and prominent figures, including the late Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara. He credits these interactions as invaluable learning experiences that enriched his bartending skills.

After half a century of dedicated service, Ram expressed pride in his contributions to the Nausori Club, highlighting the positive influence of its leadership, particularly current president Ambika Nand and secretary Uma Kant Patel. Despite the bittersweet nature of his retirement, he plans to stay connected with the club and hopes to start a small garden at home.

Reflecting on his career, Ram emphasized the importance of enjoying one’s work environment while maintaining ethical standards. He believes his story serves as a reminder that age should not limit one’s ambitions and that it is possible to achieve long-lasting goals, no matter the time frame.
