Cheers to 50 Years: A Bartender’s Heartfelt Farewell

Rajbahadur Singh, affectionately known as Ram Singh, concluded an impressive 50-year bartending career at the Nausori Club last month. At the age of 70, the Buiduna resident started his journey on July 30, 1974, initially working as a cleaner before transitioning to bartending after six months.

Ram’s dedication and amiable nature allowed him to build lasting relationships with patrons over the decades. He described his daily routine, starting at 9 a.m. and often finishing late into the night, with service extending beyond just drinks to include food. His commitment to the club was strengthened by the warm environment and the friendships he cultivated, serving a diverse clientele that included government officials, businessmen, and other notable figures.

Throughout his tenure, he learned that experience is key, emphasizing that understanding his role took time but ultimately enhanced the quality of his service. Among the drinks he frequently prepared, whiskey and beer stood out, served undiluted as preferred by many patrons.

Ram acknowledged the strong leadership of the club committee, especially President Ambika Nand and Secretary Uma Kant Patel, which contributed to the club’s achievements. He expressed pride in being part of the Nausori Club family and while he will miss the lively atmosphere, he looks forward to spending more time with his family and tending to a garden at home with help from neighbors.

Reflecting on his retirement, Ram expressed gratitude for the support from his family both at home and at the club, noting that enjoying one’s work is heavily influenced by the surrounding environment. His journey reminds us that with dedication, there are no limits to what one can achieve, regardless of age.
