The annual Melbourne Cup event held at Heineken House in Denarau yesterday successfully raised funds to support the ‘Run to Give’ initiative. Neeraj Chadha, the Multi-Property Vice President for Fiji and Samoa Marriott International and General Manager of Westin and Sheraton Resorts Fiji Complex, highlighted that this event has been organized for the past six years to foster a sense of community while offering a fun and celebratory environment.
Chadha noted that the proceeds will benefit Markets for Change, a UNICEF program that received contributions from hotels across Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji, raising over $30,000. The funds gathered through this initiative aim to assist women entrepreneurs in establishing and expanding their small businesses, which is crucial for their growth within the community.
The event attracted more than a hundred participants, including tourists and local groups such as the Nadi Hash Harriers. The gathering not only focused on fundraising but also featured entertainment, including performances from the Vou Dance group, along with good food and beverages.
Eva Mcgoon, who traveled from Papua New Guinea, expressed that the event was an enjoyable way to spend time while contributing to charity. It was supported by partners including Heineken, Lanson, and DGRC, marking a successful collaboration aimed at making a meaningful difference in the community.
Overall, the Melbourne Cup event underscores the importance of charity and community engagement, providing a platform for fun while giving back. Such initiatives highlight the power of collective efforts in fostering social change and supporting local entrepreneurs, creating a ripple effect of positivity and growth.
In summary, the Melbourne Cup at Heineken House not only brought people together in celebration but also contributed generously to a noble cause, showcasing the spirit of community and charity in action.
