The annual Melbourne Cup celebration held at the Heineken House in Denarau successfully raised funds for the ‘Run to Give’ initiative, contributing to meaningful charitable efforts. Neeraj Chadha, Multi-Property Vice President for Fiji and Samoa at Marriott International, highlighted that this tradition has been thriving for the past six years, combining fun, community engagement, and charitable support.
This year, the funds raised will specifically benefit Markets for Change, a program by UNICEF, which recently saw participation from hotels across Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji, collectively raising around $30,000. The proceeds aim to support women entrepreneurs in developing their small businesses, demonstrating a strong commitment to empowering local communities.
The event attracted over a hundred attendees, including tourists and local groups, creating a festive atmosphere. Celebrations included entertainment from the Vou Dance group and a variety of food and beverages, all while supporting charitable causes.
Participant Eva Mcgoon from PNG commented on the joy of the event, aligning entertainment with charity, showcasing that fundraising can be enjoyable and social.
Overall, the responsibility shown by the organizers and guests contributes to both local economic development and community growth, proving that celebrations can also serve philanthropic purposes.
This event truly embodies the spirit of giving, and such initiatives create a positive ripple effect in the community.
