The Coalition Government has reintroduced school chaplains in response to the growing social issues among young people in Fiji. According to a statement from the Cabinet, funding for these chaplain positions in government schools will be provided through the Ministry of Education.

The Cabinet also decided that chaplains in non-government schools would receive funding on a shared-cost basis from the Free Education Grant (FEG).

A school chaplain is defined as a cleric—such as a minister, priest, pastor, rabbi, pundit, or imam—or a lay representative of a religious organization associated with a school.

These chaplains will operate in accordance with the School Chaplaincy Policy.
