Soccer development is encountering significant obstacles as fewer businesses are willing to support the growth of the sport, according to Mohammed Hussain, the coach of Suva. Hussain highlighted the struggle districts are facing in obtaining financial backing from businesses for the ongoing four-day primary schools inter-district competition in Labasa.
He remarked, “We observe that there are fewer sponsors when it comes to primary school and the development of the sport.” In an interview, Hussain explained that participating in tournaments like the inter-district competition demands substantial financial resources. “It has been challenging to seek sponsorship for the four-day event. Funding is necessary for accommodations and other related expenses.”
This issue has been a hurdle as they prepared for the competition. “A school in Labasa has provided accommodation, as some of the boys come from underprivileged families, requiring our support,” he added. The competition is set to conclude tomorrow.
