Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has recognized the difficulties currently facing the nation, stating, “As natives, we are going through a period of challenges and change.” During his address at the annual meeting for the province of Tailevu, he commended the province for its support of the Coalition Government.

The two-day meeting is taking place in Vuci, Tokatoka, Tailevu. Rabuka emphasized significant developments in the province, such as enhancements to wharf facilities in Waidalice and Wainawi, along with the improved water supply systems in Namau and Viria, which are set to benefit the residents of Tailevu.

The Prime Minister revealed ambitious plans focusing on key areas such as agriculture, fisheries, health, youth development, and poverty alleviation. He also mentioned efforts to combat illicit drug cultivation.

Furthermore, Rabuka emphasized the importance of traditional leadership roles within the community, stating they play a crucial part in guiding individuals in both religious and governmental contexts. He noted that out of 483 traditional titles in Tailevu, 55 percent have been filled, while 45 percent, or 396 positions, remain vacant, urging the Council to address these vacancies.

In tackling societal issues, the Prime Minister addressed concerns related to climate change, cyclone preparedness, cultural preservation, and the increasing rates of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), HIV, and the abuse of women and children.

Rabuka concluded by stressing the importance of collaborative planning among village, district, and provincial levels to foster ongoing progress and development in Tailevu.
