Miss Hibiscus 2024, Melania Tora, received a traditional welcome ceremony in her village of Sabeto, Nadi, on Saturday. The local community, known as the Vanua o Betoraurau, celebrated her victory, highlighting her efforts to promote both her village of Nadi and Fiji on a global stage, as noted by clan leader Kiniviliame Mokotanavanua.
The event was graced by the presence of Tui Sabeto, Ratu Viliame Mataitoga, who expressed pride in Tora’s achievements. He remarked, “The vanua is proud of you. Your success shines as a beacon of hope and inspiration to so many. Congratulations to our amazing vulau (daughter)!”
Melania Tora, who was crowned a fortnight ago with the sponsorship of Tents and Awnings, was honored during the celebration. Ratu Viliame conveyed gratitude for how she has represented her roots, saying, “As we celebrate today, you have shown to the world what it means to represent your roots with pride. You carry the spirit of our village in your heart, and we are so grateful for the way you have honored where you came from. Your name is not mentioned, but the name of your vanua, your chiefly house, Na Momo na Tui Sabeto has been made known throughout Fiji and the world. Thank you for letting the people know where you come from.”
In response, Ms. Tora expressed her appreciation for the support of her chief and the community during the festival. She stated, “It was through your support, your guidance, and your prayers that I was able to achieve the Miss Hibiscus crown. Thank you.”
