Naulumatua Ground in Nabouwalu was buzzing with excitement as young people from three divisions of Vanua Levu came together to observe International Youth Day. The event showcased unity and cultural pride, with participants dressed in vibrant bula wear and province-themed T-shirts.
The purpose of the day was to raise awareness about youth-related issues and celebrate the contributions of young individuals in the community. An energetic atmosphere enveloped the gathering, filled with music and laughter.
Local officials and community leaders attended to express their support and appreciation for the youth. Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, officiated at the event, stating, “This day is a celebration of our youth and their potential. It’s an opportunity for them to come together, share their experiences, and inspire each other.”
Pita Baleibau, vice president of the Macuata Youth Council, praised the event for fostering collaboration and learning among young people. “It inspires me to be more active in my community and pursue my goals with more determination,” he remarked.
The event included various activities aimed at engaging and entertaining participants. Traditional Fijian dances, sports competitions, and talanoa sessions discussing pertinent youth issues were all part of the program. Youth also had the chance to inquire about beneficial programs from civil servants who set up booths at the venue.
Cultural performances were a highlight of the day, featuring traditional dances and music that showcased the rich heritage of Vanua Levu. Young performers displayed their talents, receiving enthusiastic applause and cheers from the audience.
