The Chinese community has played a crucial role in enhancing Fiji’s multicultural diversity, making significant contributions to the nation’s development and cultural heritage.
During a joint celebration of China National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival in Suva on Sunday, President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere emphasized this importance. He remarked, “Your traditions, values, and diligent efforts have helped shape Fiji into the vibrant and inclusive society it is today, and for this, we are deeply grateful.”
He noted that the Moon Festival serves as a reminder of the values of family, unity, and love that connect all communities. “As we gather today, we reflect on the significance of these values in our lives. The spirit of the festival symbolizes harmony and completeness, showcasing the unity and strength within our diverse society here in Fiji,” he added.
President Katonivere expressed gratitude to the Chinese Government for its ongoing support to Fiji. “Our enduring close and friendly ties reflect the mutual respect and strength that exist between our two nations, under the banner of strategic partnership for mutual cooperation,” he declared.
Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, highlighted the positive outcomes of the China-Fiji relationship, stating that the bright moon has borne witness to their progress. “China and Fiji are good friends, partners, and brothers,” he affirmed.
Ambassador Zhou noted the advancements made since the establishment of diplomatic ties 49 years ago, which have brought tangible benefits to both nations. He also expressed that Prime Minister Rabuka’s recent visit to China was highly successful, with leaders from both countries outlining plans for further development of their bilateral relations. “We are committed to working with Fiji to implement the agreements made by our leaders and to extend the benefits of China-Fiji cooperation to more people,” he concluded.
