Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka participated in a lively celebration for the Republic of Korea’s National Day, taking place aboard the ROKS Hansando at Suva Wharf on Thursday night. The event was organized by the Korean Embassy in Fiji and highlighted the strong friendship and diplomatic relations between Fiji and Korea, which have been maintained since 1971.

The ROKS Hansando, which is a Korean naval helicopter training ship with a crew of 290, is currently on a 110-day journey, visiting eight countries and ten ports. This visit marks the ship’s eighth time in Fiji, symbolizing the solid defense and maritime cooperation between the two nations.

Korean Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency Jin-Hyung Kim emphasized the deepening bilateral relations in areas such as trade, culture, tourism, defense, and security. During his speech to the gathered diplomats and dignitaries, he expressed appreciation for their attendance in the celebration of Korea’s National Day so far from home.

The ship’s deck was transformed into a vibrant celebration space, adorned with Korean flags, traditional decorations, and festive lights. Guests enjoyed a selection of Korean cuisine, beverages, and cultural performances that highlighted Korea’s rich heritage and accomplishments.

The evening culminated in a ceremonial toast led by Prime Minister Rabuka and Ambassador Jin-Hyung, honoring the enduring partnership between Fiji and Korea.

In summary, this celebration reflects not only diplomatic ties but also the shared values and cultural exchanges that enrich the relationship between Fiji and Korea. It serves as a reminder that such collaborations can foster greater understanding and cooperation for a brighter future.
