Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka recently participated in a lively celebration of the Republic of Korea’s National Day, held on Thursday night aboard the ROKS Hansando, which was docked at Suva Wharf.
The event, hosted by the Korean Embassy in Fiji, marked the significant diplomatic relationship between Fiji and Korea, which has been thriving since 1971. The ROKS Hansando is a Korean naval helicopter training ship, with a crew of 290, currently on an extensive 110-day voyage that includes eight countries and ten ports. This visit is notable as it is the ship’s eighth arrival in Fiji, emphasizing the strong cooperation in defense and maritime matters between the two nations.
His Excellency Jin-Hyung Kim, the Korean Ambassador to Fiji, spoke about the enhanced bilateral relations that encompass trade, culture, tourism, defense, and security. He expressed his appreciation to the attendees for joining in the celebration of Korea’s National Day so far from their homeland.
The atmosphere on the ship was festive, with its deck beautifully decorated with Korean flags, traditional ornaments, and lights. Guests enjoyed a variety of Korean cuisine, beverages, and cultural performances that highlighted Korea’s rich cultural heritage.
The evening concluded with a ceremonial toast led by Prime Minister Rabuka and Ambassador Jin-Hyung, toasting to the enduring partnership between Fiji and Korea.
