Brother Fergus Garrett, one of the oldest members of the Marist Brothers, celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Hailing from Christchurch, New Zealand, he moved to Fiji in 1970 to teach for the Marist Brothers and subsequently established the Marist Champagnat Institute. He has regarded Fiji as his home ever since his arrival.
Reflecting on his long life, Brother Fergus remarked, “The secret to a long and healthy life is good genes.” He noted that his maternal grandparents lived into their 90s, his parents’ siblings reached the same age, and his own siblings have also lived long lives, leading him to follow suit.
