Brother Fergus Garrett, one of the oldest members of the Marist Brothers, celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Hailing from Christchurch, New Zealand, he moved to Fiji in 1970 to teach with the Marist Brothers and subsequently established the Marist Champagnat Institute. Since his arrival, he has considered Fiji his home.
Br. Fergus attributes his longevity to good genetics. “The secret to a long and healthy life is good genes,” he stated. He noted that his grandparents lived into their 90s, as did his parents’ siblings and most of his own siblings, contributing to his milestone age.
