The Allan Alo Arts Festival 2024 commenced on the evening of September 2 at The University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Campus. This festival aims to celebrate Pacific arts and culture and is taking place at the Oceania Art Gallery.
The opening event featured a retrospective exhibition showcasing works by Allan Alo and Epeli Hau’ofa, setting the stage for a vibrant celebration of Pacific cultural heritage. The festival kicked off with performances and an exhibition by Pacific artists and will continue with a range of dynamic performances, workshops, and cultural exchanges through September 7.
Dr. Rosiana Lagi, Deputy Head of the School of Pacific Arts, emphasized the festival’s significance in honoring Allan Alo’s legacy while inspiring future generations. “The launch is not just the beginning of a week-long festival; it is a celebration of the enduring spirit of Pacific arts and an opportunity to honor Allan Alo’s contributions, reflect on the past, and look forward to the future with creative hope,” she stated.
