Jiya Jaanvi Prasad, a 20-year-old contestant at the Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka, is championing the cause against drug addiction. Sponsored by Rainbow Cool Tech, she is one of seven participants uniting in their mission to combat this pressing issue.
“During the Coral Coast Carnival, we stand together to raise awareness and fight against drug addiction,” Ms. Prasad stated. She highlighted the importance of hope, recovery, and support that the carnival signifies. This event marks her first foray into pageantry, and she believes that by spreading compassion and understanding, communities can help individuals break free from the grips of addiction.
Ms. Prasad, hailing from Maro, Nadroga and educated at Tuva Primary School and Nadroga Arya College, is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific. Inspired by her parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen Prasad, who are actively involved in the tourism industry, she aspires to become a lawyer.
Ramesh Naidu, the committee secretary, mentioned that this year’s carnival, which has been ongoing for four years, promises an exciting event culminating in the crowning ceremony scheduled for this Saturday.
This initiative not only highlights the ongoing struggles with addiction but also showcases a youth-led effort towards healing and support in the community.
