“During the Coral Coast Carnival, we come together to address the issue of drug addiction,” Ms. Prasad emphasized. “Although this challenge impacts many lives, we aim to inspire hope, recovery, and support. This is my first experience in a pageant.”
Jiya believes that by increasing awareness and offering empathy, society can help dismantle the cycles of addiction and foster a healthier future for everyone. “Together, we are stronger in this fight,” she declared.
She credits her parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen Prasad, for their unwavering support. Both are employed in the tourism sector and have encouraged her endeavors. Hailing from Maro, Nadroga, Jiya attended Tuva Primary School and later Nadroga Arya College.
Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific, with aspirations of becoming a lawyer. The carnival committee, represented by secretary Ramesh Naidu, noted that the carnival continues to thrive after four years, with the crowning ceremony scheduled for this Saturday.
This story highlights not only the challenges associated with addiction but also the spirit of commUNITY and support among young individuals working towards positive change. By promoting awareness and care, events like the Coral Coast Carnival can foster more conversations and initiatives that benefit vulnerable populations.
