Cancer Warrior: The Inspiring Journey of a Market Vendor

Simran Chandra, a 43-year-old market vendor from Tavakubu, has built a thriving business over the past eight years while also battling breast cancer and managing two market stalls. Despite her health challenges, Ms. Chandra continues to operate her business with the unwavering support of her family.

Starting her journey by selling pineapples on the street, Ms. Chandra has transformed into a notable figure within the community of women vendors. Although her fight against breast cancer has presented difficulties, she remains resolute.

“My family has been my support system through my cancer treatment. My mum and my son have always stood by my side,” she shared.

Ms. Chandra began her entrepreneurial journey eight years ago and has since grown into a well-respected market vendor in Lautoka. She emphasizes the hard work of the women she has met in the market, noting, “All the women I’ve met here are very hardworking. We’ve all started from scratch and built something we can be proud of.”
