The Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, has expressed serious concern regarding allegations made by Francis Puleiwai concerning Ministerial interference in the Fijian Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). He aligns with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s call for an investigation into these claims.
Seruiratu advocates for the establishment of an independent and impartial Commission of Inquiry to uphold fairness, transparency, and good governance. He suggests that this Commission be formed following this week’s parliamentary session.
The proposed Commission could include Judicial Officers, Members of Parliament, and top legal professionals from the private sector, provided they are not under investigation and maintain impartiality without any conflicts of interest in the matters at hand.
He emphasizes that the allegations are serious and challenge the foundations of good governance and democracy. Seruiratu hopes that Puleiwai will be available to clarify her allegations, and that those implicated will have the opportunity to defend themselves.
He stated that Fiji stands at a critical juncture, and as representatives of the Fijian people, it is their duty to address these allegations thoroughly and work diligently to restore public trust.
